A petrol station on the outskirts of York has reopened following a major refurbishment – and marked the occasion by welcoming back a very special guest.
BP Poppleton, located on the A59/A1237 roundabout, closed for several weeks while upgrade work was carried out at the site.
The station has been serving drivers for around a decade, and to celebrate the latest milestone, it was officially reopened by its very first customer, Jim Reid.

He was welcomed back by Wendy Brown, a BP employee who has worked at the Poppleton site since it first opened ten years ago. She presented Mr Reid with a gift to mark the reopening.
The refurbished station now features new self-checkout tills, a refreshed Wild Bean Café self-serve coffee and food area, and an extended M&S Food range. Customers will also find a new floral and gifting zone in-store.

Store manager Nick Watkinson said the team is looking forward to welcoming customers back.
“Our team can’t wait to welcome customers back to the new Poppleton store,” he said.
“The store feels brighter and more modern, with freshly baked M&S food, a new gifting zone, and great convenience options. We think our regulars and new visitors alike are going to love the new store.”
